Hi, my name is René Heinrich and welcome to my blog!
I am a data scientist and have been working intensively on the application of machine learning in energy systems since 2020. Currently I am working on my PhD in the area of trustworthy artificial intelligence. I also have a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Augsburg. During my studies I specialized in statistics, probability theory and optimization.
The saferml.com blog covers different techniques to make machine learning safer, more transparent, and more trustworthy. In particular, it focuses on the areas of Explainable AI and Adversarial Machine Learning. These two areas include various techniques that improve the explainability and robustness of machine learning algorithms.
I’m a big proponent of the learning-by-doing approach, so all methodological blog articles include simple programming examples along with the underlying theory. That way, you’ll quickly get hands-on experience with certain methods and tools, which will help you understand them better and internalize them faster.
I started this blog in 2023 because I am passionate about the safe and responsible use of machine learning. Here I share my experiences and everything I’ve learned on my own learning journey so that others can avoid my mistakes and learn from my lessons. Therefore, the articles are intended for anyone interested in improving the safety, transparency, and trustworthiness of their ML applications. My goal is to make the complex topic of trustworthy AI easy to understand for others, while providing ways to make it practical.
As I research and learn, writing helps me better understand various topics. When I share my thoughts and writings online, they attract like-minded people to discuss and learn from them. So there will also be posts where I respond to suggestions or questions I receive from readers.
